This week we'll be trying some new cabernet sauvignons that we've just brought in as well as some juicy Australian reds . I've been a little light in the Washington state cabernet section for some time now, so I decided to give some new cool ones a try. The Amavi is pretty delicious and really delivers in the value area and the Thorn Clarke Shotfire Ridge is a lip-smacker as always.

Thursday, December 6th - Australia
.
2006 Milton Park Shiraz, South Australia $13.95
The 2006 Shiraz contains 6% Nebbiolo. Crimson-colored, it has an attractive nose of spice box, blueberry, and blackberry. Medium-bodied, it has more than ample ripe fruit, good depth, and solid length. It is a Best Buy in savory Shiraz. The Milton Park label is produced by Thorn-Clarke.

2005 2 Up Shiraz, South Australia-$16.95
This deep ruby/purple-tinged Shiraz offers gorgeous aromas of sweet blackberries, figs, plums, and kirsch. Dense, opulent, and full-bodied, it is a terrific South Australian fruit bomb. Enjoy it over the next 2-3 years. It is the type of wine value that simply can't be found in California.

Sweet (from outstanding ripeness, not residual sugar), full-bodied, and fleshy, it provides a big, savory mouthful of South Australian fruit. Drink it over the next 4-5 years.

Friday, December 7th - Cabernet Sauvignon

2005 Cartlidge & Browne Cabernet Sauvignon California $10.95
Of the Cabernets we have produced in the last 10 years, the 2005 must rank among the best. Its character is spot-on varietal: rich aromas of cassis and blueberry, with accents of sweet tobacco, mocha notes, cedar and black tea. Showing fine density on the palate, its tannins are firm but velvety, adding lots of dimension to its juicy, ripe fruit character.
-Wine Maker's Notes

2005 Grayson Cabernet Sauvignon $9.95
he 2005 Grayson Cabernet Sauvignon shows a deep violet and crimson color. Aromas of cherry and cassis give way to blackberry and slight vanilla/toasty notes from the oak. The palate is plush and full-bodied with fresh cherry and berry flavors. The fine tannins and a balanced acidity create a soft and supple texture.

2004 Amavi Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley, Washington $23.95
Special: 21.95

Aims for a deft balance and achieves a lithe texture, with appealing currant and blueberry fruit, shaded with cedar and nutmeg. Not a big wine, but expressive, lingering effortlessly against refined tannins. Best from 2008 through 2013. 3,863 cases made

2005 Nelm's Road Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla, Washington $19.95 Special: 17.95
"The very warm 2005 vintage gave beautifully ripe fruit with flavors of dried black fruits, cassis, and bing cherry. Aromas of subtle herb, spices, and vanilla integrate with the fruit, leading to a nice generous finish. The wine is dark purple in color. This wine was bottled early to retain fruit and is quite drinkable for a wine so young.

2005 NxNW North By Northwest Cabernet Sauvignon Washington $25.00
"On the nose this wine is a harmonious blend of red fruits, caramel, and chocolate with a hint of pepper. Richly structured, the wine resonates with flavors of cherry and plum, and hints of anise and cocoa lingering on a long spicy finish.
